Q:

What do you feel about Taiwanese people’s reactions after the earthquake?

A:

I feel that the need for Asian people to help each other is getting more and more important. It’s different from the West in that there is a common feeling that we should protect each other … Recently Japan has not been welcomed, and certainly Asian people are sensitive on this. There is no Taiwanese consulate in Japan, and Japan and Taiwan cannot be said to be very good in terms of the past, so it is all the more appreciated to have [Taiwan] move us in this way.
